Chess Club:  Would you like to join the Payne Chess Club?  Calling all 1st through 5th grade students.  Starting on December 5th, the Payne Chess Club will be meeting Wednesday from 4:30-5:30pm. If you are interested, please fill out form in the Wednesday folder and return to office.

Join Payne’s Brownie Troop!  Calling all 2nd and 3rd Grade girls.  There are still several spaces available in Troop 1455.  We meet on Monday afternoons, and we’d love to have you!  Make friends, learn new skills, earn badges, sell cookies, and, most importantly, have fun!  Please contact Mrs. Thompson (Dionne.mason-thompson@dc.gov) if you’d like to join or have any questions!

Thankful to Give: Mrs. Fox is collecting adult toiletry items to give to those in need during the holiday season.  She is also collecting hats, scarves, and gloves.  Items can be dropped off at her classroom.

Early School Arrivals

Autumn is here.

The sun does not rise as early and the temperature is getting lower, but our operating hours remain the same. Breakfast begins at 8:10am, class begins at 8:45.  Students who arrive early will not be allowed into the building for any reason prior to 8:10am.  The only exceptions are 5th grade students whose parents have agreed that they can participate in Mr. Bergfalk’s breakfast program.

Here’s why:

Faculty and staff report to duty at 8:00am.  Between 8:10 and 8:40 teachers are preparing for instruction or collaborating with their colleagues, coaches or principal. Aides are preparing classrooms for breakfast. No one is available to supervise students prior to 8:10.

Students are encouraged to play on the playground prior to 8:10. However, it is important that they be supervised for their own safety. It is the responsibility of the parent to watch their own child when school is not open.

If assistance is needed with Before Care please contact Mr.  Davis (Robert.Davis5@dc.gov)

Grandparents Day Celebration

Payne plans to honor our wonderful grandparents at a great event this Friday, September 7, 2018 from 9 am-10 am in the school auditorium.  We will be sending home a flyer with RSVP information that is due by Thursday.  We look forward to seeing you at this wonderful event!
