Student Raffle: We expect all students to attend school on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Those students, will be eligible for a raffle of great prizes. Please note that in observance of Thanksgiving, school will be close 11/21-11/23.  Have a safe break.  See you Monday 11/26.

Payne Attendance Breakfast:  Please join members of the attendance team this Friday, November 16th at 8:30am in the auditorium for a breakfast geared toward attendance.  You will be able review your child’s attendance and ask questions regarding excuse notes.

Skate Party: Calling all Roller Skaters.  Payne’s PTA will be hosting a skate party on Wednesday, December 19th from 5-9pm.  Ticket sales will be beginning soon!  Please see flyer for more information.

Washington Wizards Tickets:  Dwight Howard’s Foundation has partnered with our school and we have 22 Wizards tickets for the December 22nd game and will be invited down to the court to meet Dwight.  If you would like to win one, please submit a 2 paragraph essay entitled “Why I think kindness and compassion are important in sports?” Turn it in by 12/7 to Mrs. Oxendine.  Please see flyer for more info.

Thanksgiving Basket Distribution: We will be distributing donated thanksgiving baskets on Tuesday at 2:00pm in the school auditorium while they last.

Literacy Night! Come join us for fun activities, reading, parent workshops, and book giveaways this Thursday, November 8th from 4:30-6:00pm.

 

Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair is running 3-6 pm. Nov. 6-9 in the school library. You can also buy a book online between now and Nov. 13; the books will be shipped to Payne. If the book sale raises more than $800, Payne receives Scholastic Dollars valued at 50 percent of sales to spend on books for the school

 

Chess Club:  Would you like to join the Payne Chess Club?  Calling all 1st through 5th grade students.  Starting on December 5th, the Payne Chess Club will be meeting Wednesday from 4:30-5:30pm. If you are interested, please fill out form in the Wednesday folder and return to office.

 

Join Payne’s Brownie Troop!  Calling all 2nd and 3rd Grade girls.  There are still several spaces available in Troop 1455.  We meet on Monday afternoons, and we’d love to have you!  Make friends, learn new skills, earn badges, sell cookies, and, most importantly, have fun!  Please contact Mrs. Thompson (Dionne.mason-thompson@dc.gov) if you’d like to join or have any questions!

 

Thankful to Give: Mrs. Fox is collecting adult toiletry items to give to those in need during the holiday season.  She is also collecting hats, scarves, and gloves.  Items can be dropped off at her classroom.

Payne Post – 9/18/2017

Parenting has been my life’s most joyful work.  It is tiresome and confusing, filled with anxiety and ecstasy, yet it is the most fulfilling work there is.  When you walk into Payne, hopefully some of the anxiety is eased and the joy is felt through a warm and welcoming community, delighted to see you and your child each day. If you have not had a chance to connect with our wonderful teachers, staff and parents, be sure to come out Wednesday night to the PTA meeting.
