Who:  The Maury Elementary Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Committee is sponsoring a workshop for parents on raising “I Can” Kids.  The Parent Encouragement Program (PEP) http://pepparent.org/, based in Montgomery County, will lead the workshop.  PEP is a nonprofit, educational organization established in 1982 that provides classes and educational resources to parents and all who care for children, toddlers through teens.

What:  The workshop will focus on strategies to increase your child’s sense of feeling connected, capable, competent, and courageous.  A child’s “I Can Quotient” is a useful measure that can replace the traditional IQ, according to psychotherapist Betty Lou Bettner.  It includes the qualities that predict a child’s ability to thrive in life.
